A new discovery may re-write history. Rhinoceros were though to wander from the Urals about 15,000 years ago, but a recent discovery may prove this theory wrong suggesting that they were in the area more recently.
Excavations in the Sverdlovsk Region in the Urals, Russian part, have uncovered bones which seem to belong to a rhinoceros. The diggings took place in a site on the bank of the Lobva River.
Archaeologists say the bones are about 9000 years old. The findings could re-write history as the widely accepted theory is that the rhinoceros disappeared from the Urals some 15000 to 20000 years ago.
